   Beckie Kravetz  has been a professional mask maker and sculptor for more than 20 years.  She received her training with Donato Sartori at the Centro Maschere e Strutture Gestuali in Italy, and at the Yale School of Drama, the Taller de Madera in Guatemala and the Instituto Allende in San Miguel, Mexico.  In 1989 she became the resident mask-maker for the Los Angeles Opera, where she also spent 18 years as the assistant wig master and a principal makeup artist.  Beckie’s work has been seen in numerous opera, regional theatre and university productions including Santa Fe Opera, New York’s Classic Stage Company, Pan Asian Repertory Theater and Lincoln Center Institute, LA’s Ziggurat Theatre and Towne Street Theater, Yale University, Bryn Mawr and Hunter Colleges.   She contributed to the Disney film, The Haunted Mansion, and she has also designed and built masks for international Max Factor, Pepsi and Nike and commercials featuring Madonna, Michael Jackson, and Charles Barkley.   In 2001, Beckie was awarded a Fulbright Fellowship to study wood carving, ritual masks and puppets in Spain.  She has also received grants from the California Arts Council, Arizona Arts Commission, and private foundations. Beckie has taught mask making to students of all ages,and has received grants for special projects with at-risk students and students with disabilities.  Beckie’s masks and sculptures have been exhibited at the Gallery at Lincoln Center (NYC), The Metropolitan Opera, Tucson Museum of Art's Arizona Biennial, The Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Los Angeles (solo exhibition), Davis Dominguez, Dinnerware and TDS Galleries (Tucson, AZ), the Jewish Community Museum (San Francisco), Lincoln Center Library (NYC)  Gallery 10 and the Mind’s Eye Gallery (Scottsdale, AZ), Walker Gallery(UC Davis), Mesquite Grove Gallery (Patagonia, AZ), and Roark Gallery (LA).  Beckie lives in western Massachusetts with her husband, journalist and author Alan Weisman.
